Carl Grillmair (Caltech / IPAC) — d. 16 February 2026
Who: Astrophysicist at IPAC for nearly three decades; stellar streams, Galactic structure, and early molecular exoplanet atmosphere work. Memorial notices cite the 2011 NASA Exceptional Scientific Achievement Medal.
How: Fatally shot at a remote Los Angeles County (Mojave-area) property. Public reporting named an arrested suspect in February 2026.
Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland (USAF, ret.) — missing since 27 February 2026
